Purdue basketball exhibition recap: analysis, player grades, concerns, and improvements needed ahead of season opener vs Gonzaga. Locked On Boilermakers.
Purdue Boilermakers suffer a humbling 76-53 loss to UConn in their final exhibition, raising urgent questions about offensive identity and team readiness ahead of the regular season opener against Gonzaga. Can CJ Cox carry the load, or will inconsistent support from Gicarri Harris, Cade Pierce, and Daniel Jacobsen hold the team back?
The conversation focused on Purdue’s major concerns: lackluster scoring, poor three-point shooting, and rebounding struggles despite Jacobsen’s size. Player grades highlight standout efforts from CJ Cox and Antione West, but several rotation members receive critical marks for underperformance. The discussion explored what must change for Purdue to compete against top-tier teams like Gonzaga, Tennessee, and Iowa State, with emphasis on finding a reliable second scorer, improving transition defense, and unlocking more paint production. Are the Boilermakers poised for a turnaround, or are early warning signs too big to ignore?
